Guilford Hall Brewery: A New Chapter with a Legacy Twist

Baltimore’s craft beer scene has been buzzing with excitement over the recent acquisition of Flying Fish Brewing Co.’s name and recipes by Guilford Hall Brewery. This development marks a fascinating new chapter for both breweries, blending historic charm with beloved flavors. I recently had the chance to visit Guilford Hall Brewery to experience this transition firsthand. Here’s a look at what makes this brewery and its new offerings so special.

  • A Historic Transformation

Guilford Hall Brewery, nestled in the revitalized Station North Arts and Entertainment District, is housed in the original 1898 Crown Cork & Seal factory. This European-style brewery offers a unique dining experience and nods to Baltimore’s rich industrial past. The historic building has been thoughtfully repurposed to create a vibrant space combining old-world charm and contemporary design.

The brewery’s purchase of Flying Fish Brewing Co. was significant, with a price tag of $152,500. This deal included the brand name and recipes, trademarks, packaging, websites, and some existing contracts. It was the largest of several items sold in this transaction, highlighting the importance of Flying Fish’s intellectual property to Guilford Hall.

  • A Taste of Legacy

Guilford Hall Brewery’s taproom is a welcoming haven where visitors can savor various beers. Guilford Restaurant / Tasting Room does not offer the Flying Fish Brand on tap. They are still crafting some of the same beers that have transcended New Jersey Beer. These beers can be purchased for to-go and distribution to former contracts.

Guilford Hall has stayed true to the original recipe while adding its flair. The beers still in production are. HopFish, Hazy Bones, Crisp, Citra, Go Birds, Salt and Sea, High Hopes, Octoberfish. Evening, adding a new beer, Juciy Bones.

  • A Modern Brewpub Experience

Guilford Hall Brewery isn’t just about the beers; it’s also about the experience. The brewery features a spirited brewpub, an intimate beer garden, and an open-concept event space. Whether you’re looking for a casual pint or planning a larger gathering, Guilford Hall offers a versatile setting catering to small and large groups.

The brewpub serves a menu inspired by European dining traditions, making it an excellent spot for a meal to accompany your beer tasting. The beer garden provides a relaxed outdoor atmosphere, while the event space is ideal for celebrations and special occasions. Some beers to highlight from the visit are Baltimore Pils, English IPA, British Pale Ale, and Kolsch.

The acquisition of Flying Fish Brewing Co.’s name and recipes signifies more than just a change in ownership; it’s a continuation of a beloved brewing legacy. Guilford Hall Brewery’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of these classic recipes while integrating them into their brewing traditions is commendable.

  • Why You Should Visit

Visiting Guilford Hall Brewery is a must if you find yourself in Baltimore. It’s not just about enjoying great beer; it’s about being part of a story that bridges historical significance with contemporary craftsmanship. The brewery’s setting and dedication to preserving and innovating upon classic recipes make it a standout destination.

So, head to Guilford Hall Brewery to explore this exciting new chapter and experience the rich flavors and vibrant atmosphere that make it a gem in Baltimore’s craft beer scene. Cheers to tradition, innovation, and an excellent pint!
